The Higher Education in the Arab Region (HEAR) website is a digital resource for scholars and practitioners interested in recent transformations of universities and other institutions of higher education in the Arab region, as well as the intersections between higher education and the socioeconomic and political contexts of the various countries of the Arab region.

The Arab region comprises 22 states that are members of the League of Arab States. This website presents a Map and searchable database on all universities and 4-year higher education institutes in these countries, as well as Links to resources such as articles, reports, projects, conferences and other data. The Research section of the website presents papers from the research projects that produced this website and will be updated with new papers and reports emerging from ongoing and future projects.

This digital resource emerged out of several projects directed by the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) based in New York, United States, starting in 2009. As of 2013, the website has become a joint project between the SSRC and the Arab Council for the Social Sciences (ACSS) based in Beirut, Lebanon. The two founding partners welcome institutions and projects who would like to join in, and contribute to, this website.
